Chapter 1 – Basslines & Grooves
To build a solid foundation, a basic repertoire of various grooves is essential. Each drum groove is accompanied by a bassline, which is first rendered vocally. The drum groove is then added step by step. The chapter further demonstrates how grooves can be expanded and varied.
Chapter 2 – Solos & Coordination
Why do so many drummers struggle to play a solo in an odd time signature? Often, it’s simply due to a lack of coordination. We are used to playing grooves and solos in 4/4 and feel confident about where each stroke should be placed. This chapter reveals various ways to build and develop a solo, along with numerous exercises to train coordination and confidence.
Chapter 3 – Developing Grooves
Using song examples, piano parts, and melodic lines, this chapter shows how to develop the perfect groove for a new piece of music.
